after the former owners of the building. The rich and

restaurant in the classical, historical meaning, with all
the small things showing you that you’re not here just
for the food.
Bloom

Brown Sugar The curious design reminds one of a
French brasserie made in a more graceful and “boudoir”

Burga Located on the groundfl oor of a pretty box-house in the
Art Nouveau district, the spacious, contemporary and
democratic Burga offers inexpensive European/Latvian
cuisine lunch sets, and a little more expensive European
a la carte menu. Pre-party cocktails and groovy dj sets on
weekend evenings. One of the latest local favourites.
Burkans Restorans (Carrot Restaurant) Latest venue by Riga bar/clubbing father figure, charismatic
Arnis Bikšus. From now, not only perfect cocktails,
artistically made here every day by Arnis himself, but
also seasonal eco-minded meals by promising chef Andris
Rümîtis (member of Pavåru klubs). The young chef
starts every working day by handpicking the freshest and
best local farmer products from the Central Market. Try
out his special daily changing uber-green ‘market basket’
menu. Or choose from the more than 15 dishes enormous
lunch menu, which, as the owners claim, is also
the fastest! Also offer a smarter a la carte menu. Don’t
forget the fresh juices with vegetables and berries from
local bio farms. Perfect river view by the window and, as
always, completely breezy and carefree vibes!
Cafe Balanss' & Restaurant Elements Cafe Balanss’ baker Janis Kairis offers a wide variety of
tasty homemade pastries, croissants, sandwiches and
light salads accompanied by coffee, cappuccino or a glass
of wine. When in a hurry, take it away! Restaurant Elements
offers fast served delicious business lunch on workdays
and à la Carte menu presented by Chef de Cuisine Svetlana
Riskova. Healthy food made of local and fresh ingredients with a selection of fi ne wines is a good choice either
for business meetings or dining with friends.
Carpe Diem A very classy, sophisticated interior design, somewhat a
mix of 70s and Art Deco. Delicious contemporary international
cuisine, accompanied by jazz (also live in the
evenings). For you special occasions, choose the separate
room with the crystal chandelier.
Caviar Club The special atmosphere here is enhanced by the view of the
ever-changing sea and white sandy beach. Very appropriate
place for organizing banquets, social events and relaxing
evenings. A selection of cakes, pastries, muffi ns, and other
confections can be prepared by the hotel’s confectioners. A
special menu, complete with nutritious and delicious choices
as well as vegetarian options and desserts, was created
by Caviar Club chef for younger diners.
Charlie Pizza Don’t be afraid of its prime location and black velvetchandelier
interior. Charlie pizza is a loud and friendly
‘casual bite’ place, representing probably all the favourite
European meals at very decent prices: pastas, pizzas,
steaks, soups also Baltic cuisine, vegetarian menu and
even few sorts of Belgian beer. Also Illy coffee and one of
the best home-made ‘kvass’ drink in town.
D Style The gorgeous face of this cutting-edge establishment—
author and owner—is Riga’s well-known singer and DJ,
Ella. The interior designer of the club/restaurant is Zane
Tetere (Mad House, Piens, ex-Hospitalis), the furniture is
made by Latvian artists, the uniforms were designed by
the famous Liga Banga. On top of all that, De Style has
a very promising young chef Edgars Linins, who unites
French and Italian cuisine in his seasonal, affordable
menu. Plus—perfect Old Riga view by the window.
Desiderata Upon entering the restaurant, you will defi nitely be impressed
by the strange, yet attractive design. Brick walls
set a contrast with the neatly decked tables. Remnants of
the original old Riga city walls enclose a private niche-like
area for VIP meetings. Choose from 70 different dishes
and an extensive winelist.
Domini Canes Located in a nice Old Riga building this “loungy/
romantic” restaurant is a good alternative for the rather
expensive Old Riga dining places. Domini Canes offers
nicely served pastas, salads, soups, meat dishes and
some local recipes at reasonable prices.
Esplanade The comfortable and spacious restaurant reflects the latest trends and tastes of dining in a relaxing and sensually pleasing atmosphere. The cuisine features a variety of international styles and flavours. Fabrikas Restorans The most fashionable restaurant amongst the succesful
Latvian intelligentsia. It is located across the river, on
Kipsala, right on the river bank, in the brick loft apartment
house, that served during Soviet times as a plaster factory.
In summer, there is a terrace on the floating deck.
We strongly recommend you to reserve beforehand.
Fazenda Bazars Grandma’s country house in the middle of the city centre,
with a small market with local hand-selected berries, fruits,
vegetables and greens at the entrance. A bit further, an old
recipe-bakery with scrumptious, crunchy little pirågi and
bulciñas, as well as weighable local herb teas. And the restaurant
itself? Creative seasonal menu dishes are light and
yummy. Try the set of local cheeses and/or the spinach
and pear salad with monterigo cheese under coriander
sauce. Serves picture-perfect continental breakfast.
Fazenda bazars II The second ‘Grandmother’s country house’ is located in
the picturesque old Agenskalns neighbourhood. Same retro
worn-out, granny’s jam-scented interior, daily prepared
bread and pastries. Also very much affordable day menu
with salads + Italian-style gastro-sandwiches, plus creative
evening a la carte menu. If you are looking for that very
special local feeling, peculiar cuisine, handmade interior,
and particular location – it is the greatest delight!
Filings (Feeling) In the mornings, the musical restaurant offers
crunchy yummy pastries from their bakery. During the
day-time (12.00 - 15.00) enjoy their business lunch accompanied
by live piano music for just 5 Ls. And in the
evenings, revel in the art of Fîlings’ skillful cooks accompanied
by live music from local and international jazz,
blues, rockabilly musicians. Also serves latvian traditionals such as pork chop with horse radish, sorrel soup and much more.

Jaunais Balzambara Restorans (B-Bar) Very spacious expansion of the popular
Balzambars (see Cafes & Bars) with a trendy design,
chocolate colours and comfortable leather sofas. Foodwise, the menu offers anything from
breakfast to children’s special dishes and delicious diet
and health food. 3-course business lunch at 6.90Ls.
KID All three KIDs are capacious and have superb locations.
This creatively ‘romantic’ factory style cafe/restaurants has become a hotspot for hip Rigans. All KIDs are famous for their salads, live music and DJ events, exhibitions and truly European vibes. The Old Riga branch has a lovely wine bar.
Laivu Centrs Restorans (Boat Centre Restaurant) As the name suggests the restaurant is located in a yacht
club with an enchanting view over Daugava river. Offering
moderately priced seasonal menu and meditative-faraway
boat and river mood, though located just a fi veminute
ride from the city centre.
Limbo Situated in the Bowlero complex—designed by the famous Latvian architect Andis Sîlis—Limbo brings back the 70s feeling, accentuated by plastic furniture from Kartell. We recommend the mussels soup with curry paste, followed by the assorted hot meat with Shiitake mushroom stew and orange sauce.
For dessert try the coconut mousse.
Mauricius Intricately furnished restaurant, crammed by an enormous collection of masks, idols and other interesting trophies from North-Africa and India. Decked out in typically British Colonial style, the interior of this large restaurant brandishes numerous authentic artefacts, for instance, the carved wooden portal in the banquet room dates back to 17th century. Cosmopolitan cuisine, ranging from Hungarian fish soup to Mexican burro con queso. On Fri and Sat disco with tunes from 80s and 90s.
Melnie Muki (The Black Monks) Ruggedness of the bare medieval brick smoothly fuses with the finesse of modern polished wood and textiles, the result, is a very sophisticated and contemporary style. Polite service, the right choice of music and delicious cuisine. Fajitas with turkey meat and fish dishes are most popular.
Ostas Skati (Port Views) This urban restaurant-eatery offers
probably the best Riga riverside view. The low prices
will positively shock you! The experienced chef has created
three menus—two of them (breakfast and lunch) are very
democratic (Ls 1.50 - 4) and the a la carte menu is just
a tad more expensive (Ls 3 - 12). Their specialization is
grilled meat and fish dishes.
Palm Garden On the premises where before WWI the upmarket “Palmengarten” restaurant was located, the hotel Riga has once again re-opened the Palm Garden, including over 30 different palm trees in a wonderfully light, secluded yet cosy atmosphere. The interior of soft beige wall colours and parquet immediately lighten your mood as the friendly staff helps you to decide between dishes. Good outside seating.

Pie Kristapa Kunga Really a BIG restaurant, where you will find everything: Latvian, European, Russian, Eastern cuisine, special gourmet dishes in 8 halls, made in different Latvian ethnic styles. A good place to go to with friends, and treat them to Royal sturgeon, or Savoury cheese fondue. If you are less generous and want to eat all by yourself, just try anything else from the menu such as Beef kidneys à la Russian taste XIX century recipe, Shorba soup, or pick your own trout from the aquarium and have it prepared according to your choice (boiled, oven-baked or cooked on open fire). In addition to the extraordinary meals, The Multi-Coloured Pigeon also offers a unique historical atmosphere which helps make your visit a romantic and memorable experience. Teatra Bara Restorans Being a theatre restaurant, this place impresses with its
design. Definitely not the place for a slow, calm, quiet
whispery-romantic dinner. But a place to see Latvian
intelligence at rest, meaning loud and naïve talks about
independent art and fashion, sophisticated cocktails, stylish
clothes, smart faces. Good international cuisine, cosy
terrace outside, warm and light feeling inside.
Tinto At last, the oldest and classiest Cinema Riga has its own
very corresponding multi-concept cafeteria. Tinto simultaniously
is a wine shop, wine studio, tapas bar, cafeteria
and restaurant. In the mornings, they bake crunchy croissants
and serve proper continental breakfast, during the
day they offer reliable European cuisine, but closer to
the evening they prepare tapas with authentic Spanish
ingredients to go with the wide selection of handpicked
wines.
Vairak Saules (More Sun) Chef and CEO Endijs has managed to work out the really nice concept of mixing Latvian/German and Italian cuisines. Big satisfactory portions, fi lling pizzas, home made pastas, authentic German sausages, dietic salads fast and friendly service, family oriented marketing and groovy design has turned VS (and VS outlets see also Wok Cafe and Pastarellia) to local favourites and the must for city guests.
Velvets The chef prepares eclectic European dishes. Try the slivers of chicken breast with jasmine rice. Free entrance and good 80s-90s music attract hordes of people all ages daily every evening from 21.00.
