Sienna (0 comments)

Calm and easy spacious cafe/library/shop which can definitely slow you down from the city rush. Offers one of the finest views of the charmingly lazy Art Nouveau district. Recline on the soft pillows with a cup of coffee and a book accompanied by soothing lounge music. Offers also fresh snacks and tempting cakes. Don’t leave without buying hand-made accessories such as photo albums or leather journals.

Route 66 (0 comments)

Many alternative youngsters went through Route 66 and the brews of Raimonds, its tattooed barman/owner. This place is eccentric, very energetic, stuffed with funny and brightly dressed boys and girls in their early twenties, drinking and dancing and shouting, but keeping it cute and nice. Hidden from any possible parents’ invasion in the greens of Kronvalda parks in the tennis club changing room. Being here is the same as to fi ll up with teen spirit. So different from the grey and “so-so” places of Riga!

KIM? (Museum/Gallery) (0 comments)

What is art / what is museum? — these are two questions, answers to which are most often sought nowhere else, but in museum. Museum seems to be a place that hosts the truth about what is art. However, it usually is the truth of yesterday. It is the old truth, because the answer to question “what is museum?” Alters as swiftly and unexpectedly as the answer to question “what is art?”. According to the western wisdom known ever since the antique times, one cannot and must not rely on answers. They are ever inconsistent and coupled with time. However, the significance is borne by the question itself. It will exist, as long as art and thinking will. In consequence, we don’t want the museum to be a repository of ready answers, namely, a place to come to and to find out. Instead, we want it to be a place where to go to in order to think and to question every answer obtained, thus step by step getting closer to the ideal, namely, the truth...

Perle (Pearl) (0 comments)

Just splendid! Marvellous vintage (read ‘well-travelled’) handpicked 80’s-90’s fashion piece store/bar club. This probably is the number one hipsters’ destination in Riga. Spacious, very well organized interior, funky accessories, design objects, VHS tapes, also carefully sheltered soviet bags, belts and shoes. If you’re lucky you may witness the rare but explosive Perle vintage parties, so you should defi nitely put on your ‘new’ clothes!
