The story you are going to see took place in one of the cities of the famous old Hanseatic Union. Possibly Lübeck? Or Bremen? Or perhaps in Riga? It was here that during the night before Christmas, when miracles become possible, the dream of a little girl came true. On the Christmas Eve Father Christmas arrives with a sack full of presents. When a single present is left at the bottom of the sack – a strange doll, the nutcracker, Father Christmas mysteriously disappears. Nobody likes the doll, onlylittle Marie feels tender sympathy for it. Libretto by Marius Petipa, revised by Aivars Leimanis, after the fairy-tale by Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann.
Choreography and staging by Aivars Leimanis based on the production of Vasily Vainonen.
Set and Costume Designer Alexandre Vassiliev.
