In 2020, we will celebrate the 150-year birthday of one of the founders of Latvian applied art and design, Jūlijs Madernieks. Later this year, the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design will organize a vast exhibition devoted to Jūlijs Madernieks, revealing the broad scope of the artist’s creative interests.
The development of contemporary design calls for complex examination and evaluation of cultural heritage. Today, the master’s contribution gains new value. Madernieks has paved the way for the advancement of Latvian design by creating significant public interiors, working in graphics as works of art, book graphics, and applied graphics. He was also a talented teacher and art critic.
