Beethoven, Old Riga and Ancient Greece

The Latvian National Symphony Orchestra Wind Quintet with the always reliable pianist Agnes Egliņa will lead you into the colourful, sophisticated and joyful world of chamber music.

Ludwig van Beethoven's early Quintet Op. 16 refers to the music of Mozart, and this opus could be seen as a small chamber concerto for piano and wind instruments. Gundega Šmite, a Latvian sound magician living in Greece, has put the mysteries and stories of the Old Town and the quiet Trokšņu Street into sound. Tommaso Pratola, principal flute of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, will perform one of the most impressive compositions in the flute repertoire - "Linus Song" by the 20th century French spiritualist and archaicist Henri Jolivet. Jean Franset's motto was ''to give joy'' and he will cozy us up in his suite ''Galant Date Time''.
