I Love You This 2-level bar has an informal atmosphere with only alternative and non-commercial rock as background music. Although located in a historical 16th century building with the original ancient brick walls and dark wooden floors, there is still an airy feel in it. Popular among those in their late 20ies-early 30ies. Set menus change daily and also good European style a la carte dishes and democratic prices. Try the chicken breast on top of oven baked vegetables.

Latvijas 1.Rokkafejnica / rockcafe.lv The Rockcafe is so massive—you could even call it an
‘independent alternative republic’. Located in the historical
‘Reutern Residence’, spread over three floors, in the
heart of Old Riga, it houses three bars and two stages.
Also has a restaurant and deli, which uses mainly local
ingredients for its very affordable menu. The venue is
also a museum with paraphernalia from the most famous
Latvian rock bands and soon also a shop. Relaxed, easy
shabby-chic, very local atmosphere, great food, energising
events! Alternative must!
Lidojosa Varde (The Flying Frog) Not much has changed since the restaurant was
opened... nobody recalls now, how long ago. The food
still is unpretentious but fi lling, it is still jam-packed with
locals and expats, but service still is not really obliging.
This should not be taken personally, but seen as a part of
entertainment. Great outside seating terrace.
Lobby Bar (in Radisson SAS Daugava Hotel) After a hard day, relax and enjoy a splendid view of Old Riga over a cool draught or special cocktail. Daily happy hour between 17.00 and 19.00. Live music every night, except on Sun. Very attentive service (well, no wonder for a hotel of this class).
Madhouse Yes, slightly mad, but in the sweetest sense
of the word. The atmosphere pushes you into the wondrous
60-70-ies, so snug, you can’t resist but enjoying it.
The place is truly local, so give all the respect to its audience
and staff— no yelling and shoving allowed. Soviet dining bestsellers,
plenty of unbelievable cocktails and funky European-soviet
food selection.
Olive Located a little bit away from the main tourist attractions,
this pretty bar/restaurant offers a very affordable European
day menu, accompanied with decent housewines
and only a little more expensive a la carte menu. Try their
home-made bakery and stay for ocassional evening musical
events.
Osiris This comfortable cafe with its fireplace, classical music and regular exhibitions of the renowned artist Ilmars Blumbergs is a great centrally located rendezvous. International meals or business lunches, wines and cocktails and daily foreign papers available for your perusal. The New Theatre across the street makes Osiris an ideal place for pre or post theatre dining.
Passerella Elegant Vienna style cafe where you can enjoy a quiet chat or a romantic rendez-vous accompanied by Italian background music. Another classy touch—the wine is served in Bohemian crystal glasses.
Petergailis This cafe serves European and Baltic dishes at reasonable prices. Historic black and white photos adorn the walls.
Pils bar (Castle Bar) & Suite Lounge Pils Bar is undoubtedly a busy meeting place of diplomats,
business people and hotel guests. Beautifully furnished
and decorated, with interesting artwork and hunting
trophies, this comfortable bar creates a very special
atmosphere with unobtrusive friendly service and live entertainment.
The Suite Lounge is right next door, where
resident DJs play house. Chill out in a cozy setting and
enjoy great cocktails and even sushi. Themed evenings
take place here regularly.
Red Fred This firestation-inspired restaurant is a good alternative to the classical pubs and bars. Decent grilled meat and vegetable dishes, or healthy salads for ladies. Countless kinds of beer.

yummy Picnix snacks, alternative interior design and dj’s

Star Lounge Bar This can be an alternative
to Skyline Bar (in Reval Hotel Latvija, see above),
although it is not on such a high floor, but it is a top-floor
hotel bar. Lounge-style deep sofas with soft cushions, designed
in burgundy hues and offeringbeautiful views, if the
weather permits! 10 different kinds of mojito available.
Taka Worth taking a ride or walk to the Miera street district,
to this local bohemian hotspot. Offers nice homelike
cuisine with industrial fashionistas all around. Wed—
instrumental nights, Thr—reggae nights, Fri—DJs/theatre
nights, Sat—thematical ethnic parties, Sun—yoga
sessions.
Teatra Bars In contrast to the Teatra bara restorans, Teatra bars invites more late-evening clients and is decorated with vintage theatre posters—very compact, but nevertheless 100% bohemian. Crazy, close-up talking, dancing and drinking! According to the mood of the moment, music varies from Latvian and Russian 60s, 70s and/or 80s movie soundtracks, to down tempo, Tricky or new indie/Britpop bands. It is completely local, therefore this could be an intriguing outing for our city guests.
Victory Pub English Pub
in the Old Town near Dome Square. Extensive drink and
food list. Pool table, juke box, TV, smoking rooms. Night
club in the basement is opened from Thr to Sun and is
mainly used for private parties—safe & fun place for
