A. Suns (0 comments)

A very spacious bar that seems rather friendly and modern, serving chilled beers and colourful cocktails. There is no shortage of patrons in this "industrial" style bistro, which is constantly filled to the brim with bonding beer-hugging locals. The menu is regularly expanded with different kinds of new dishes, but the management recommends the Tex Mex! The kitchen works until 01.00, making this place popular and crowded especially during weekends.

This 2-level bar has an informal atmosphere with only alternative and non-commercial rock as background music. Although located in a historical 16th century building with the original ancient brick walls and dark wooden floors, there is still an airy feel in it. Popular among those in their late 20ies-early 30ies. Set menus change daily and also good European style a la carte dishes and democratic prices. Try the chicken breast on top of oven baked vegetables.

Latvijas 1.Rokkafejnica / rockcafe.lv (0 comments)

The Rockcafe is so massive—you could even call it an ‘independent alternative republic’. Located in the historical ‘Reutern Residence’, spread over three floors, in the heart of Old Riga, it houses three bars and two stages. Also has a restaurant and deli, which uses mainly local ingredients for its very affordable menu. The venue is also a museum with paraphernalia from the most famous Latvian rock bands and soon also a shop. Relaxed, easy shabby-chic, very local atmosphere, great food, energising events! Alternative must!

Lidojosa Varde (The Flying Frog) (2 comments)

Not much has changed since the restaurant was opened... nobody recalls now, how long ago. The food still is unpretentious but fi lling, it is still jam-packed with locals and expats, but service still is not really obliging. This should not be taken personally, but seen as a part of entertainment. Great outside seating terrace.

Cozy, “home away from home” concept restaurant/club, located in an orangerie-like space. Offers yummy, homelike “from-what-is-fresh” Latvian/European cuisine. And rrrreal groovy vibes at the evening. BTW, local pioneer mixmasters AG & Raitis were noticed playing here a few times and those grandmasters are very picky in their choice of places they bless with their music...
