Galerija Istaba (art shop + cafe) (3 comments)

TThis Bohemian maisonette consists of the Latvian artists’ shop/gallery, selling cute ‘impracticals’ and jewellery, also holding monthly exhibitions. A bar/restaurant upstairs, dining spaces are decorated as separate rooms. Famous Latvian TV star chef Martiñš Sirmais, known for his gastronomical patriotism, can only prepare two different dishes because of the small, call it ‘trivial’, Istaba kitchen. So just rely on Martiñš and choose among set meat or fish dishes + dessert.

Meta Kafe (0 comments)

The Meta concept unites restaurant, bar, concert/performance, library space within one blank and minimalist interior. Meta Kafe co-owners Elviss & Ervins are really hard-to-please types, trying to always reach the highest standards. So, when it concerns their cafe, food must be properly made from 100% local organic produce, the most current music must play in the background, the most recent books on the shelves (also audio and DVD books for sale) and only the most refi ned contemporary shows and events will fi ll the evenings. Don’t miss the changing wall-exhibition—every two months different local artists paint over the existing art.

NIA (0 comments)

Artist-owned concept gallery/bar-club, a good alternative to the usual bar-clubs. Though located in the cellar of an Old Riga building, Nia actually boasts a lovely inner garden on the groundfl oor and is ideal for pre-party cock-tails and dance warm-up as it has a dancing space and a curious cocktail selection. Nia is a little less snobbish than other places in its category and gathers a younger audience.

Calm and easy spacious cafe/library/shop which can definitely slow you down from the city rush. Offers one of the finest views of the charmingly lazy Art Nouveau district. Recline on the soft pillows with a cup of coffee and a book accompanied by soothing lounge music. Offers also fresh snacks and tempting cakes. Don’t leave without buying hand-made accessories such as photo albums or leather journals.

Tea club Goija (10 comments)

This Middle East inspired venue offers sophisticated tea from China, Japan, Morocco, India etc. For the last 3 years of existence Goija’s homelike handmade interior, proficient down tempo music selection and absolutely snug atmosphere, have turned this tea room to the main lounge place for local bohemia. Ideal for slowing down from the hard day in hip (but anti-glamour) surroundings.
