RTW recommends
101 Stacija Soviet railway station themed pocket bar-club, offers
simple Latvian-European cuisine during the day. In the
evenings 101 Stacija transforms into a pre-party cocktail
bar. All decoration details, furniture and cutlery are authentic and still functional witnesses of the Soviet era.
Before going for some fancy clubbing, feel the contrast
having few “white russians” here.
Austrumu Robeza (Eastern Border) Enjoy your lagman (spicy soup), but be polite—Stalin is watching you! Decorated with Soviet memorabilia, this
restaurant might be a tad intimidating, but don’t worry: a
shot of vodka does miracles. PS: Don’t forget to eat your
pickles and rye bread after considerable vodka consumption!
Theatre performances during the evenings.
Bufete This lovely, absolutely authentic soviet cafe, fl oating on
the old soviet Boat, serves the creative workers (think fashion, art, music), whose offi ces occupy Andrejsala. Get ready for soviet specials, such as meatballs with mashed potatoes, beet root salad, cabbage soup, fi sh with cottage cheese and desserts looking like spaceship food.
Leningrad Some friends took babushka’s old furniture, mixed it all
in a natural way and created a soviet fl at in the way the
citizens here remember it. The atmosphere is completely
comfy because it is a party-flat, where visitors are neighbours
or friends and you are recognized as one of them.
Ask for superior Ukrainian vodka, famous bottled beer
Zhigulevskoe or local pearl—non-fi ltred beer Brengulu.
