On Saturday, January 30th at the concert-hall Spikeri (Maskavas street 4 k-1, Riga) will be held a screening of cine club Coffee & Cigarettes, dedicated to contemporary French cinema. The program is composed of works of young authors, whose success is proven by different international festival awards. The viewers will have the possibility to enjoy six pictures: five short movies and one full feature film. The total program length is 4 hours (including the break).

The short part of the screening is being opened by “Mei Ling” the work of Stephanie Lansaque and Francois Leroy, the story of a young Chinese girl that tamed an octopus. After that the Chinese interiors are changed to a buzzing French suburb, where Fabrice Maruca comedy film “Surprise” takes place, a series of unfortunate events lead to a situation where an innocent husband is found by his wife in bed with a young neighbor girl. Next is a mystical drama “Appel D'air” by Lucie Duchêne, about overcoming ones inner fears and prejustice. Our first part of the evening is finished by a dark comedy “The Deafgame” by Rémy Cayuela, which urges everyone to be cautious when already on your first date you’re invited to spend a weekend at a country house.

During the break, everyone will be able to enjoy real French croissants from “Cadets de Gascogne” bakery, after that viewers will be greeted by full feature film “Louise-Michel”, a duet of directors Gustave de Kervernand and Benoît Delépine. This film was called an insane anarchic fantasy, it seems to consist from a number of humorous sketches, where somewhat dumb and naïve in a good way characters project their kind of justice upon the world. The film among many awards, received a special jury prize at Sundance Film Festival 2009, best script prize at San Sebastián International Film Festival 2008 and Viewers choice award from Amiens International Film Festival 2008. As usual cine club Coffee & Cigarettes will hold voting, where everyone will have an opportunity to leave a comment and vote for the best film. All comments and results of the voting will be sent to film authors. The screening is organized with support from French Culture Center.
