Briedis vs Usyk

USYK SEES BRIEDIS AS SEMI-FINAL OPPONENT

Aleksandr Usyk defeated Marco Huck via 10th round TKO and advanced to the semi-finals of the World Boxing Super Series, successfully retaining his WBO World Cruiserweight title in the process. In the semi-finals, the tournament favourite Usyk will face the winner of Mairis Briedis versus Mike Perez, which takes place on September 30 in Riga, Latvia.

“I think Briedis will beat Perez, so next man up is probably Briedis,” said Usyk. The cruiserweight tournament’s number one seed from Ukraine produced a dominant display on Saturday night at the Max-Schmeling-Halle in Berlin, which ended with the referee stepping in to stop the encounter and save Huck from further punshment.

“Huck pushed me at the press conference in fight week and tried to get into my head, but I am cold as ice when in comes to mind-games. I do the talking in the ring, and I was the better fighter. I was never really hurt and felt in control.”

“I would like to thank the tournament for the opportunity to unify all the belts in cruiserweight and win the Muhammad Ali Trophy. Now I am one step closer.” “We were able to deliver a very good fight,” said Huck. “I believe I hurt Usyk in the first rounds, but in the end the pressure became too much. I will now take some holiday and decide how to move on from this.”
