The performance starts with three French aristocrats, musketeers from the beginning of the 17th century, suddenly finding themselves in a suburb of Vienna. Athos, Porthos and Aramis, who went to sleep in 17th century France, wake up in 21st century Vienna. Trying to find a horse to go back to France, they encounter people who suggest going somewhere by train, as they call it. Having no chance of getting back, the musketeers decide to move forward and explore the mysterious land of Eastern Europe. They intend to do what musketeers do best – fight. The only question is – what for?
There’s a variety of media used in the performance – its genre is a mockumentary musical. An essential part of the production is video footage documenting the real life journey of the three musketeers, portrayed by the actors, as they travel through contemporary Central Eastern European countries – Hungary, Serbia, Romania etc., up to Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. The interplay between the documentary and the action on stage creates a performance that offers viewers to look inside modern Europeans’ daily lives and worldviews, and find similarities and differences between them.
